Alex Snowden (2017) A2 Advanced Portfolio

To go with my minute long music video i had to create an album cover to go with it. i decided to make the colour scheme black and white (dark colours) as it fit with the genre of the song i was making a video for. This is the front and back cover (and spine) for the album. I put Jaden on the front of the album as he is the lead singer for the band and edited the photo so that it fit with the overall theme of the album.

We were given the task of recreating 30 seconds of a music video to get used to how music videos are constructed. For my 30 second task I recreated the Jedward song Bad Behavior. Ellis and Becky agreed to star in the video and i filmed and edited the footage. When filming, we slightly went off track when it came to replicating the dance but we still managed to make the two videos similar when it comes to the editing and the content of some of the shots. This is the final result.

In music videos, we are seeing more and more the sexualisation of women in order to attract a larger audience. This can be seen in Lady Gaga's Bad Romance music video through her outfits and her overall demeanour throughout the video. The music video can be applied to the theory of the male gaze where Lady Gaga is being shown as being an object of desire as everyone is focused on Lady Gaga as it creates interest in the audience. This can be shown in the beginning of the music video when Lady Gaga is pulled out of the bath, drugged, stripped and then paraded in front of a group of men. The video itself has both narrative and performance aspects to it as Lady Gaga sings the song throughout the video and the video also follows a narrative. The narrative of the video is that Lady Gaga is drugged and kidnapped and then sold to the mafia for a million rubles.
