Controversial Music Videos

There are some music video's that make it clear that there will be explicit content within it by the title, such as Prodigy's Smack My Bitch Up. Due to the title of the song and the contents of the music video, the video was taken off the internet and subsequently leading to the music video becoming immensely popular. However there are also music videos that cause controversy because of the content even if it isn't deemed explicit. An example of this is Madonna's 'Like A Prayer'. Many people found this offensive due to its take on religion. In the music video, Madonna is seen; 1.) Kissing an African-American Jesus 2.) Dancing in front of a burning cross 3.) Showing an excessive amount of skin in a church The combination of all these factors led to this video being controversial. Music Video Regulation

Just like with films and TV shows, there are regulations that music videos must adhere to as well. In the UK, Ofcom is the communications regulator who control the content that radio and TV want to publish. The BBFC are the regulators of the music video industry as well as the film industry since all music videos are essentially are mini films that promote a song. Both films and music videos have age restrictions due to the content of some videos. BBFC ratings are given according to the artist and their target audience and the songs lyrical content. For Example, artists such as One Direction wouldn't have age ratings on their video as their target audience is mainly teens and young children whereas artists such as Eminem or A$AP Rocky would have more explicit lyrics therefore it is likely they would have an age rating on their music videos. We were giving the task of taking a range of band/ artist photos to practice for creating an album cover for our artist. We took a range of different photos so we could experiment with and different looks for my artist and the characteristics of different genres. These are the final photos.
