The BBFC are the regulators of the music video industry as well as the film industry since all music videos are essentially are mini films that promote a song. Both films and music videos have age restrictions due to the content of some videos. BBFC ratings are given according to the artist and their target audience and the songs lyrical content. For Example, artists such as One Direction wouldn't have age ratings on their video as their target audience is mainly teens and young children whereas artists such as Eminem or A$AP Rocky would have more explicit lyrics therefore it is likely they would have an age rating on their music videos.
For a music video to be giving an age rating it would most likely feature some form of
  • Drug misuse
  • Nudity or sexual behavior
  • Bad language
  • Hazardous situations being presented as safe
  • Threatening behavior and violence
